Sharing
Internal sharing
It is possible to share an individual document and it’s child documents with one or many users and groups, this is in addition to the access provided by collection permissions. For example, as a manager you could have a private collection for your 1-1 meetings and then share individual 1-1 documents with each participant. Or share a sub-tree of a larger collection with a group.

Inviting users to a document
Simply open the “Share” menu from the top of the document and then find the people or groups to invite to the document, select, and click “Invite”. They will receive a notification and the document will appear in a “Shared with me” section in their sidebar.
As part of inviting, you can also select if they have edit or view-only access to the document.
Publish to web
Documents and Collections can be shared with the public internet. Simply click the “Share” button in the top right of any document or collection and then toggle next to “Web” at the bottom of the dialog. Note, that any child documents will also be shared publicly.

The share dialog
Custom link
You can change the custom link for the document by editing the path directly in the dialog after the /s/
portion which is enforced to indicate a share link, .e.g /s/docs
. This will make the shared document easier to find and remember, great for publishing help pages or documentation like this one.
Custom domain
If you would like to link a custom domain of your choice to a shared document this is available as a $20/mo add-on on cloud-hosted Outline. Reach out to hello@getoutline.com to setup.
Disabled sharing
Public sharing can be turned off for the entire workspace or an individual collection. If the option to publish does not appear in the dialog then sharing has been disabled by your admins or collection manager.
To change this setting for the workspace, admins should look under Settings → Security → Behavior. To change the sharing setting for an individual collection admins can find the option at Collection → … → Edit…
Note: On cloud hosted Outline shared content may also become unavailable if the workspace no longer has a paid subscription.
