# Videos

Common video formats such as `mp4` and `mov` are supported, however note uploaded videos are *not* re-encoded, so it’s best to use a [widely supported codec](https://www.chromium.org/audio-video/) to ensure that the video will load correctly when viewing in different browsers.

Outline is not a storage service, it is recommend to only upload small videos that will load quickly. We recommend using a dedicated video host such as YouTube or Vimeo for large videos.

# Inserting

You have several options to add videos to a document:

* Paste a video from the clipboard with the keyboard or mouse
* Drag and drop a video from your desktop


* Type `/video` to trigger a file uploader

# Size & layout

Hover over the edges of a video to see a resize cursor, you can click and drag to resize - the aspect ratio will be automatically retained.
